The Stamp Steelhead Trip

Heading over to Port Alberni on Saturday the 3rd of Feb and fishing all day Sunday the 4th with West Coast River Charters. Nick is simply one of the best guides around so it should be a great day. The weather is looking good, it may be clear and cold but that's awesome in my books. Report and pics to follow upon my return.

Vedder River January 20th, 2007

This is mosty Dave's post from FWR but I modified it a little mostly 'cause I was feeling lazy and a little tired.

Howdy folks, I finally get to file a report that actually has me landing a fish.

After talking to Kelso through PM a few times we decided to finally meet each other in person and head out for a day of steelheading. We started out at Lickman Rd where we met Fishersak and another member from the forum whos name slips me as they were getting ready to fish the same run. No success for us there but as we were leaving we saw Island Boy, his son and friend. His friend managed a small wild steelhead just as we moved down the run. Nice to see the guys from the forum.

Next we headed up river to Testo84`s secret spot #2 I don`t know what the run is called but after a few casts I hooked and landed a nice hatchery steelhead short floating a pink worm. Man was I stoked when the fish hit and I was telling Kelso what a lucky bugger I was to land it. Thank you fish Gods.

Kelso kept fishing but unfortunately couldn`t get another to bite at the spot so we moved up river. After showing Kelso a bit more water and not hooking into anythiing we decided to call it a day, a day I will remember for a while. Thanks for hooking up Kelso and doing the driving, I had a good time out there and wish you big success on your Stamp River trip.

Pictures posted, see picture link at top right of page.

Cheers,

Nuggy

Fishing plans

No posts for awhile but I did manage to get to The Vedder on Sunday January 14th for the FWR Steelhead derby. I went with Gwynne, Scotty aka "ScottFish" and Kristian aka "The Ice Bear". We fished and walked and walked and fished but came up empty handed. It was a beautiful day though, cold (- 9 in the morning ) and clear with no wind.

I am planning on hitting the flow on Saturday or Sunday, perhaps both depending on the weather. Will go with "The Ice bear" and perhaps "Nuggy" from FWR if all goes as planned.

I am also planning another trip to The Stamp for Steelies with West Coast River Charters in the next two weeks. Reports and pics to follow.

Weekend of January 6, 2007

Sadly it looks like the Vedder is going to be blown out for the weekend due to the amount of rain we've received here locally. There is some talk of taking the Zodiac out to try for some cutties on the fly on Sunday. Looking forward to getting out there regardless and of course there is another Stamp River trip on the horizon as well.

Cheakamus River December 26th, 2006

I decided to take a part of the day and drive to Squamish to try out the newly acquired fly rod. I figured there would be very few people out, if any at all, and I was right. Thank God as I've never fly fished before and didn't want to look like an idiot in front of a bunch of experienced fly guys.

Lets just say I caught three trees and nearly caught my ear before I put the fly rod away and brought out the drift gear. Saw some really red coho around but that was it for the day. Headed back downtown after a few hours. Can't wait to try the fly gear again.
